Guy Chadwick drifted from the group House of Love for this solo release, and I'll get to them for their own review. Lazy, Soft & Slow is an album about love, nothing more, nothing less ... and goes on to prove that some groups need all of the members to fall into step if they intend to continue. I was in Paris when I heard Guy on one of the TV channels, and while I didn't recognize him at first, when he mentioned the Fontain Label, my ears perked up. Here was the man himself, and I was getting to see his material live before it was released to the public. I want to say that the outing is mellow, but that would be doing it a disservice, the music actually is lazy, soft and slow, and more, it's magical. This album cuts right to the bone or heart for that matter, is compelling, and demanding of your full attention without being overbearing. Go ahead, try to put this one on and not be gently swept away ... it ain't gonna' happen. Every time I listen to Guy's adventure I find something new, he fills each song with marvelous guitars, hypnotic vocals, unearthly lyrics, and it's all brought to the surface by a back up band who understands what Guy is trying to do. If you've discovered this album you are definitely a serious music person, and have come to gips with a side of yourself too many of us hide away. Now, back to Paris ... I was lounging in the park on a warm spring afternoon, I put down my book swearing I knew the guy across from me, though I was probably making him uncomfortable with my gaze. And then it clicked, of course I knew him, he was Guy Chadwick, it was just that he was where I wouldn't have expected to find him, and my lazy mind was a bid slow on connecting the dots. I walked over and asked if he minded if we spoke, he said “Please.” We talked about his new solo material, House of Love, and what he’d been trying to do with both of these efforts. He then relayed the necessity of breaking up the band and striking out on his own, though he did leave the door open for a regrouping should circumstances and cooler heads prevail. I thanked him for his time, told him that I'd seen them in Philadelphia, and what a wonderful show it was. I stood, he shook my hand, opened his paper and I walked on. I do love Paris.Review by Jenell Kesler
