Was your life ever just somewhere else, and you missed an album, only to find it years later, and it just blew you away. Such was my discovery of “Babe Rainbow.” And right now, as I write, with my speakers at more volume then I care to admit, I’m in heaven.“Babe Rainbow” came on the heels of two of the finest albums in my collection from ‘House Of Love’ and is a splendid continuation of their saga. With each outing by this band they managed to learn something, not only about themselves, the recording process, but also in the nature of their music. While they have a sound that is unique to them, and them alone, there is a steady progression of the learning process and this album is no exception. All that they have experienced, all that challenges them, all that intersects their lives is brought forth in the recording studio, then is laid out on a disc to wash over you like the shimmering colours of a warm afternoon’s sunset.I’m not going to go into the flawless guitar work, or the little eggs that pop up to surprise you, or that this album feels that it has stepped into a space that is a bit more clear, or that the lyrics have an intelligence to them, or that nothing has been left to chance, you can read all of that in my other reviews of ‘House Of Love.’What I am going to say is that this band was one of the most psychedelic of the neo-psychedelic bands that came out during this period. Groups like Jesus Jones and The Stereophonic’s, who hit it big and then died with the Manchester Music Scene copied House Of Love’s style and production...and what’s so sad about that, is that ‘House Of Love’ on their next two albums tried to get on board the Manchester Sound, a sound that they helped establish, yet became imitators of those who where imitating them; and while these next album was very good, it wasn’t until their 2005 release that they got back on track [and back together], content to just be themselves, producing some of the best music of the genre.I missed this one, and I can’t say I’m sorry I did. If I hadn’t then I probably wouldn’t be feeling as cool as I do right now, digging the swirling guitars that play off each other, the vocals that rise and fall, only to become equal to that of the instrumentation...this is a very impressive piece of music. So if you missed it, and you’re a fan, or if you’d just like to take my word for it...this is an amazing release.Review by Jenell Kesler

Agreed! This is by far my favorite HOL release. I was living in Summit County, CO (Snowboard Country) with my girlfriend (now wife) when I first heard You Don't Understand off my friends DMX cable music service. I bought the cd the next day and still listen to it occasionally.

Me too. After Bickers left, I went with Levitation. Much as I love Levitation, I should never have dismissed this sheer masterpiece.
