Grarana
For a long time, my feeling about this record was the same as what Urbanus says in the final verse: I don't have time to waste my time here. But right now when I'm having a bit too much time on my hands, I could pass you a couple of notes to this one. What are we having here? An absolutely absurd combination of Belgium's most popular comedian with a scratching deejay? It may be a bit late, but one can consider it as a Flemish answer to Grandmaster Flash's legendary "Adventures On The Wheels Of Steel".Urbanus is telling a story about himself being arrested by Wallonian police officers ("zwaantje", meaning "little swan", is Flemish slang for a policeman), and finding ways to get out of this miserable situation, for instance by reciting the personal pronouns in French ("je, tu, il..."). The traffic rule he violated? He was only allowed to drive 50 km/h, but actually drove 48...At the same time, Kris Kastaar is accompaying him with sounds ranging from passing police cars, ticking against car windows, rolling down that same car window to laughing police officers, writing on notepads... some of them scratched from records and others were manipulations of Urbanus's voice. It was one of four Top 10 entries in Belgium. In the Netherlands, the single did not chart, but the twelve inch was a hit in our Dance Chart in Summer 1984.
