Can anyone confirm if it is a Roland tr 808 used on most of the tracks,? Specifically on the acid side?

Yozshubei
I agree with rdubdj. Acid side is def 808, the claves and congas give it away. Deep house is more difficult lots of effects and eq but there is a 909 and a 707 in there.

Hǻrley Quinn
def mainly 808 on acid side with reverb, sounds like another drum machine on the intro of "all acid out"

BoberMod
It says 1986 on the double repress and 1988 on the original....

Chi
Farley says on some YouTube vid that he made it in 1987.

Lanionge
Farley in interview states that he made the recordings used for the album "No Vocals Necessary" in 1987.Source: MTV Acid House Report (1993).

I'm willing to believe that the Deep House side was produced in 86 and the Acid House side sometime there after and then released for 88.

WBMX Master Piece. Re-Release 2 x 12 deep inches! Its so good to have. Out now!

One of the best records ever. So good... this is probably a pipe dream but it would be dope to get the original recordings if they're still around and reissue this on a 2XLP

GawelleN
Wowow! not even mad that I paid good $ for an original. This record should be more available. Great news

I Think it's happening as we speak! ; ) just saw a pre-order for a reissue online.

Been listening and experiencing this great Lp 3 or 4 times a year since "88" and I love it more and more each year. The Jackmaster IS just that...Plus a pure genius imho...Few tracks can get me into that expansive space like 'The funk is on' and feeling that "get up and groove"... If the Jackmaster 'needs a friend', I'm Here-There for life! Much Luv ; )

On of the realest chicago records from the late 80's. The sound quality isnt that good but these songs are all really dope. Farley is so creative on here. The beat programming on the acid side especially is very imaginative but still loose feeling and very much intended for heavy dancing.

The Deep House side of this tends to get overlooked, sure The Acid Life & I Need a Friend still sound the nutz but Farley's version of Wood Brass & Steel's Funkanova (aka The Funk Lives On)is very much as good as anything he put out around this time and is his version of Moment of My Life which from memory is Should I Need You. All round quality EP.

"I need a friend" - What a tune. Seminal Chicago-House that is perculiar to the ear and moving to the soul. I haven't heard it for about 10 years but can still hear it. Flippin' Acid-house scene - don't 'alf do things to your long term memory.

Jav, 'The Acid Life' is 'The' bomb of the LP, sure but, don't forget to mention 'I Need A Friend'. Amazing track. While listening to it, u can note it evolves from a deep-house vibe & melancholic feel to hardcore jackin' house & acid madness. It is also very brave to add violin samples which brings this particular vibe. That is why this track is very good i think.

If you're new to the Chicago House sound, this record is a good place to start. The LP has two sides--one of which is devoted to acid house, and the other to deep house. I prefer the acid side, but that's probably just my personal preference. Farley always made great tracks, but I think these eight are some of his best, since they're pretty much free of the catchiness or mainstream-radio appeal of a lot of his productions.

Yep and dont go for bundles either.,,t f e t
