The original pressing (2005) is profoundly better in sound quality than Plain Recordings' reissue. The 180g reissue has endless pops and crackles in addition to inappropriate surface noise that ruins tracks like "Extraordinary Machine", "Parting Gift", and "Waltz (Better Than Fine)". Furthermore, there is an unforgivable skipping defect just after the climax in "Not About Love"; I returned my copy twice and every replacement copy had the same defect and loud surface noise. Though it may be costly, if anyone is interested in purchasing this album as a 12" LP I only recommend the original issue. The first pressing has beautiful, crisp sounds (with no surface noise) that bring Fiona's piano chords and vocals to life––the fidelity, mastering & dynamic range is very appreciable.

I've AB ed with 2011 Plain Recordings. I'm the first owner for both. so both are in mint condition. Original pressing is superior in sound but I'm not sure the differences are huge enough to justify the price difference. 1. fortunately my 2011 pressing doesn't have a pop or clicks and surface noises are minimal, compared to the original it is even quiter2. my original pressing copy has a surface noise on the blank pasage as well as a quiet part of music. it's really noticeable. 2011 is better on this part3. EQ ; i guess both are from the same master but EQed differently. what you prefer is totally upto the taste. 4. one thing the original is worth is dynamics. when the music is becoming busier, 2011 plain is lost and getting confused. Not About Love, for example, both have a different sound character which i can't decide which i prefer but when the music passed the chorus and came to the last verse 2011 plain started to show its limit. confused among parts. but i'd say that's not that bad. overall if you can find 2011 plain under $30, it's quite a deal. btw I've tested with my modest 7k system / rega rp6 with nagaoka mp200.
