STIGMA create a clinically sterile music format which hearkens back to CABARET VOLTAIRE and infects it with a virus more lethal than Ebola. Basing most of this album on rhythmic structures which range from pure, thin strains to dirty distorted bludgeoning masses, they terraform their own environment with designer dis-ease. Sometimes their sound is as delicate as a Lacewing's gossamer veins, sometimes as brutal as a Death Factory, they swear affiliation with the Industrial past, and set their course for a bleak, petrol-fume-tainted future. When they DO opt for a rhythmic/song approach - "Cancer Of The Earth" & "Burning Soul" - it's more bleak & colour-drained than anything by the likes of FRONT 242 or their ilk - a flat field poisoning EBM's harvest. "Henry" hearkens back to THROBBING GRISTLE circa "After Cease To Exist" - a humming, minimal backdrop over which two loops repeat with cold, dehumanised precision. The album itself is quite short - clocking in at only a meagre 41'53" - wisely avoiding overstaying it's welcome, leaving the listener hungry for more. There's little in the way of warmth in this album - but for those of us who like to venture into the dark and dreadful lands of Trad Industrial culture, then this is a welcomed excursion.
