I'm almost certain the funk sample at the beginning of Ultimate Damage '98 comes from a pitched up Fred & The New J.B.'s ‎– (It's Not The Express) It's The JB's Monaurailhttps://www.discogs.com/Fred-The-New-JBs-Its-Not-The-Express-Its-The-JBs-Monaurail/release/839526

Back in '98 this record introduced me to the world of Deathchant and it totally blew my mind! To me Deathchant is the king of hardcore... Everything that's great about the genre is all crammed into each release this label does and it's all combined with some of the slickest production I've ever heard, particularly in the hardcore genre which can sometimes be very crude in its production style (which is actually the charm of this genre also). "Ultimate Damage '98" is a perfect example of the Deathchant genius.... Heavy ass kickin beats, jungle breaks, hop hip samples and scratches all supported by some nasty baselines, filthy melodies and fucked up, glitch style production. "Research & Development" differs from style of Side A but shows you that these guys don't fuck around and they know exactly what they're doing production wise, this is an example of the (dare I say) "deeper" side of Deathchant. This track is one big build up through haunting atmospherics, jungle/tech step beats and drum & bass baselines, with a kick drum not coming in till the last 3rd of the track. Big heavy killer business!!!If you're a Deathchant fan this should be number 1 on your list, if you've never heard of Deathchant this is the place to start.
