Wire
The music used in the soundtrack of "Back To The Future" had a big impression on me when I first saw the movie in 1985. All the themes are incredibly catchy and will stay in my mind for the rest of my life. Alan Silvestri really did a great job with the orchestral music. His "Back To The Future" suite will probably live forever as one of the most remembered cinematic theme of the 1980's. Huey Lewis & The News appear here with what became one of their greatest hits in career (as well as "Back In Time"). For some commercial reasons, the song "Mister Sandman" performed by The Four Aces was not included on this album. That's unfortunate, since it became so much associated with the movie after. Etta James sings "The Wallflower (Dance With Me Henry)", used in the restaurant scene before the infamous chase led by Biff Tannen to catch Marty McFly. Speaking of the man, his performance of "Johnny B. Goode" is immortalized (dubbed by Mark Campbell), and The Starlighters offer their outstanding rendition of "Night Train" and "Earth Angel". The discordant points: "Time Bomb Town" by Lindsey Buckingham sounds more like a joke than a song. His vocals are terrible. What is he trying to reproduce vocally? Some kind of orgasm? I don't know. But it doesn't work. Eric Clapton does an okay job with "Heaven Is One Step Away", produced by Phil Collins, but it figures in the movie for about 5 seconds only (around the end), so it's not that memorable. My advice: if you liked the movie, you will probably like the soundtrack too.
