Mellow's PERFECT COLOURS doesn't really get them away from their roots as a Air analogue, but there's still plenty of lazy pleasures to be found, from the fuzzy guitars of the title track to the slow psychedelia of "Love Ain't the Answer." But the blissfulness of "Drifting Out of Sight" stands out more strongly, hearkening back to classic 60s pop, with the "Orchestral Version" of the track offering a touch of elegance. For the most part, though, the album slides away as if it were on Teflon. "Out of Reach" adds jangly rock to make it more memorable, and the hidden track, "A Place for Meditation," takes a slightly darker turn, as it veers between major and minor keys. The colours are definitely pretty, but I wish they'd paint more of a picture.
