While all hail to the sample-heavy title track that swallowed its own creators, both creatively and legally, it is the b-side (or as it insists, the aa-side) that gives way more weirdness to it. Whoever is "Anitina", the dreamy vocals drenched in feedback and echo-delay, blending with guitars and a smashing beat box, do way more justice to what M/A/R/R/S may have become from the over-exploited one-hit wonder they remain to be. Of course, there are several variations of both tracks via different editions. Each interesting to explore while differences are way more audible in the aa-side's versions. The main beast of a track is lost in its variants though, and depending on your personal taste - or better, mood - "Pump Up the Volume" will either thrill you or annoy you.

Uris
MARRS the name was a one hit wonder but the producers were far from it.

Rocksmith
"Pump up the volume" is a great electro-dance-disco blend which keeps a pounding rhythm and Great lyrics to put a smile on your face as well. Enjoy!

Kulafyn
Don't miss the hidden gem on the flip - Anitina (First Time I See She Dance). An interesting and groovy mid-tempo industrial club track with some solid drum and bass programming, wailing voices, strange samples. Best of Colourbox style without the cheese.

Felolune
I totally disagree with the other reviewer, first of all this is not a 70s/80s bridge, but a 80s/90s one..

Just_paw
Maybe read properly before commenting. It was said to be a bridge from the 70s/80s to a new world, not between the 70s and 80s

Stick
The impact of "Pump up the volume" in music was very massive, it was certainly a bridge between the 70/80 dance music and the house/techno of the 90s.You were probably too young in 1987 to remember, but there was nothing like this before (in mainstream music, obviously): Coldcut, Bomb the Bass, S-Express and all the others came later, and New Beat and Techno even more later.

Water
If there's a song out there that it's worth to be labeled "historical track" this is the one. A revolution, this is the bridge from 70s/80s typical discomusic to a new world. Not owning this record should be considered a crime.
