I've been collecting and dj'ing psychedelic trance for many years. Although 95% of the genre is tasteless, dogmatic and drug-fuelled rubbish there is some artists whose talents shines through in a way that few others, regardless of genre, can do. Gus Till was untouchable during a 10 year period, as Slinky Wizard, Bus and a few other side projects. When the Goa Trance-sound started repeating itself around 96-97 many of the already established artists lost their touch. But some, like X-Dream, Koxbox and Gus Till somehow sensed the wind blowing and updated their sound into some of the best psychedelic trance ever made, both creatively and production wise.Gus Till only made one "real" trance album, the truly underrated "Morebusinesslinkyouthere", but luckily released these two compilations on SUB (a sub-label of Psy Harmonics) of the post-Slinky Wizard-sound of the late 90's to early 00's. And while the other compilation (Volume 1) is great, this Volume 2 honestly is beyond words. Altought it's only a compilation this has to be one of my top 3 trance albums I've heard. This is not Progressive, not Goa, not Fullon, not Techtrance, not Forest, not Suomi (although the faggotts of Texas co-produced on of the tracks here). This is just Trance. Psychedelic Trance. Deep Trance. Epic Trance, with some of the most amazing musical storytelling ever produced in the world of electronic dance music.I remember when I was 21, travelling in Indonesia in 2009. I went to a few psychedelic parties in Bali and the Gili-islands. I had just started dj'ing more seriously, and talked with a few established dj's about my ambitions. "What kind of trance do you want to play?" they asked. I said I had tried many styles, but my dream would be to play stuff like Gus Till made in the early 2000's. These older dj's (30-40 years old) had never heard of him, and only vaguely had heard of a Goa-act called Slinky Wizard, but they assumed this "Gus Till" was some cheesy, melodic stuff that young, inexperienced acid-heads like myself could like.Well, years they passed, and I established myself as a DJ, playing mainly Suomi and Forest - the crazy stuff. One time, only ONE time, I asked the organiser to play a morning set, taking down the tempo to 138-144 bpm. I played quite lots of this Gus Till-stuff, 15 years old, and the crowd, used to the really intense Forest music, really, I mean REALLY, took the music to their hearts. Cheese??? My ass. This is the the best psychedelic trance ever produced, no matter what sub-genre your in to. I hope to share it on dancefloors soon again...

I am not usually much of a progressive psy trance follower, but my, this is on a whole new level when compared to your typical release of the style. Furthermore, it's a collection of unreleased material by the old school legend, Gus Till, but despite the apparent random factor, the whole thing flows better than most album I've had the opportunity to listen to lately. I'm astounded by the juicyness of these tracks. Fat, deep and opulent bass lines, with driving and infectious layers of sound being added and subtracted from track to track, sparkled with throbbing drum kicks, long intros & outros, with a distinct macabre atmosphere present throughout the album. It's material which works equally well on parties while maintaining its home tripping potential. Play it loud either on a pair of high quality headphones or a great speaker system and you'll feel the sheer power of Gus Till's production techniques. All tracks have been additionally remastered under Gus' supervision, and with a brief history of each track on the back of the digipak, modern psy trance does not come by this good that often. Trust me on this one: by the ending of your first listen you'll be pretty much confident that most of your recent psy orientated purchases have been futile. OK, I am exaggerating, but this is fantastic music. It's a goldfish swimming in a sea of dull planktons.
