Whether SWINGIN' ON A STAR vocally, or teeing off at the famed Pebble Beach, California, Golf Tourney, Harry Lillis Crosby, more popularly known as Bing, is a champion in every sense of the word.
The Bing Crosby legend is probably known by more people throughout the world than that of any other human being who ever lived. Bing transcends his profession, for his ability to please has made him much more than a name - he is a symbol. Though modes and styles may change, the pleasure derived from listening to a Bing Crosby recording remains constant. And when the world's most popular entertainment personality "Sings All-Time Favorites From Years Past," the results are a musical wonderland for all to enjoy.
Bing first introduced SWINGIN' ON A STAR in the 1944 Academy Award winning motion picture, "Going My Way." Not only did Bing win the Academy Award for his unforgettable portrayal of Father O'Malley in the motion picture, but the Jimmy Van Heusen-Johnny Burke classic won the coveted award as the best motion picture song of that year. Bing's Decca recording of the song sold well over a million single copies and was one of twenty Gold Records that Bing has received to date.
It was Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart who gave Bing SOON, and he was first introduced the song in the 1935 Paramount motion picture, "Mississippi."
1936 was the year, "Rhythm On The Range" was the motion picture, and I CAN'T ESCAPE FROM YOU was the title of the song.
Once more Bing donned the clerical garb of Father O'Malley for the film, "The Bells Of St. Mary's," and one of Crosby's all-time favorites emerged, AREN'T YOU GLAD YOU'RE YOU?
Bing sang JUNE IN JANUARY in the 1934 Paramount film, "Here Is My Heart," and the Leo Robin-Ralph Rainger song has been a favorite ever since.
DEAR HEARTS AND GENTLE PEOPLE, another all-time Crosby classic, won him another Gold Record from Decca.
The standout song from the 1944 Paramount motion picture "Here Comes The Waves" was AC-CENT-TCHU-ATE THE POSITIVE. Introduced in the picture by Bing, this original Decca recording features Bing and The Andrews Sisters.
