Goll
One of those albums that was almost never released. This German group recorded this album at the beginning of 1979, gave the tape to Klaus Schulze in hopes it would be (presumably) released on his newly launched I.C. (Innovative Communications) but was ignored and left to gather dust. The band retrieved the tape, and it happens to be that Cain (by then a division of Bellaphon) decided to release it, in 1980. Unsurprisingly, the band had very little input for the album artwork or album title, little wonder the 1993 CD reissue on Musea features a totally different cover that's more to their liking (resembles Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene minus the skull). How's the music? Maybe not the most original prog rock out there, the ELP influences are rather obvious, especially from the Hammond organ, but it's still worth having. The music is all instrumental. Also it's no surprise to have ELP-influenced prog when the band named themselves after an ELP album. Though recorded in 1979 and released a year later, it could easily pass as a mid '70s recording (the fact there are no keyboards made after 1975 has a lot to do with it).
