I will start this review to say this a deeply interesting and different album, from one of the leading fathers of Slipknot. when this came out a lot of reviewers and fans of Slipknot (I myself, was never one of the "maggots" of that era) expected better as with the success of misfits-esque antics of Murderdolls and the grunge metal dirge of Stone Sour. it just didn't. the band was dropped by roadrunner after poor sales. it got average and most people confused, as they where expecting a full on metal album from the man whom seemed manic performing live whilst been dressed as a clown. upon further listening though i have found this album to be a unappreciated gem, a very different radio-friendly indie pop album, with lots of positive messages as opposed to the latter's often comically violent or woeful lyrics. Shawn obviously a fan of 60s music, teamed up with vocalist guitarist Brandon Darner (now of Envy Corps) and Steve Robinson on guitar (he could've maybe performed vocals too on some track, as this is uncertain) to create this album which drew comparison to the doors, the beatles, ween, and others. the album kicks off with "the world's too small" which features the introduction of Brandon Darner's soft lyrics with Shawn doing occasional backup and a mouthed guitar solo(!) which then is followed the punkish "get it to go" and video single "in the mood" which are quite more upbeat in tempo, with some fabulous guitar playing and amusing lyrics. key moments of this album though are the ultimately positive "blue" which includes the lyric "blue belongs in the sky, and not of you or I" the Crahan solo "Say Goodbye" and best track on the whole album "this life" in which shawn at one point of the song drops a heartfelt message of what it would like to lose a loved one close to death. There are a few hits and misses on this album, but never a dull moment.the album IMO should've just ended at "Sunday" which is a beatles-monkees esque number in which the band say they're goodbyes, but instead it ends with the dull "whose to say" which spoils the album's ending in a way. in all, a under appreciated album by a fantastic band that should've lasted for at least one more album, as the new material they had done in 2005 sounded promising. if you have a open ear outside of Slipknot et al, you will enjoy this album so much more. 5/5
