This original vinyl pressing contains the original version of Set You Free, which is basically the same as the All Around The World release from 1994 apart from a more demo-ish production. It's not that noticeable on first listen, but if you compare it to the '94 mix you can hear the slight variance in Kelly Llorenna's vocals as well as a rougher arrangement. To be honest this original mix really stands well against the polished '94 mix, to the extent that I am always inclined to play it if I have to choose the definitive version.Where this original white label becomes unique is on the alternative mixes. A1 is a shorter edit of the main track, but with a definite change in rhythm. The rave breakbeat is ditched in favour of a straight house 4/4 pattern, which while not exactly spoiling the track does hint at what I may assume was Pete Waterman's insistence at making the track more commercial. In a sense the A1 mix is really rather forgettable, and it never got further than this white label for good reason. It did resurface in a manner of speaking as the "Pop mix" on the 1994 reissue, which struggled in itself amongst much better remixes by the likes of The Time Frequency and Hyper Go Go.Also on the '94 reissue was a rather intense, retro (for the time) sounding in-house mix entitled "Kleptomania mix". Fans of this version will be shocked to their bones when they hear Mix 3 on this white label.Mix 3. This is the entire reason for hunting down this vinyl, and it is probably the reason why it is so in demand. Simply put, Mix 3 is a straight 4/4 oldschool techno rave mix of Set You Free, complete with the rasping bassline that was reintroduced on the Kleptomania mix two years later but with an incredible hands-in-the-air rave riff redolent of Injected With A Poison-meets-Power People (by The Rhythmic State).Truly, Mix 3 is a genuine hidden gem of the 1992 rave scene. An ideal alternative to the overplayed original mix, it's a great shame it was never issued on any official release of Set You Free. Not to be missed.
