After Joy Orbison recovered the garage tricks in those four wonderful tracks he released at first, many producers tried to do the same, but George Fitzgerald may be the most talented of all of them. In "Shackled" we can listen to him at top form: I remember listening to this at Outlook Festival, that rave disguised as a festival that take place in an english-invaded Croatian abandoned fort at the beach, in the fourth day of the festival, with my stomach aching and asking for a rest, drinking water and non-carbonated soft drinks, missing a boat party I purchased because I thought I couldn't bear it... and finding myself all that completely tired listening to a live Fitzgerald performance for the first time, in a day with stormy weather. When Shackled began, with that neverending climax, it started to rain, and this fitted the track perfectly: it has a perfect sense of melody, of song construction, of distributing the samples without making them tiresome, of melody hooks, of rhythm playfulness, of getting your attention and make you dance to tunes that at first seem more a deconstruction than postdubstep/ukgarage/whatever style. This is the obvious highlight of the 12'', but "Feel like" is also good with the most obvious ukgarage construction, and "Friends on high places" though it hasn't that punch, is also wonderfully made and produced. There are some similarities between this and the rest of the Hotflush releases, like the playful mood that is melancholic at the same time, but the abilities of Fitzgerald dropping the bass at exactly the right place and twisting the melody just enough makes him stand out among all the producers. To me, a significant masterpiece of the genre.
