Very rare - one of a kind. This album was a revelation in my music education, opening insights that remain poorly-understood by many even now. Skitri is fully-committed to "notes inégale" as the proper performance practice for this repertoire and he takes this liberty further still channeling a Dionysian spirit of improvisation. Here we are reminded just how thoroughly European music for fretted instruments is rooted in enduring traditions of the near east. Some may find it self-indulgent. It certainly is eccentric - and ravishing.
