The most boring electronic LP in recent years? Discuss.

Cashoutmaster
completely disagree: it is modern but... absolutely fateful to the gener...also full of beautiful patterns.

Agreed, Hype Knot 7 is a highlight, but I think this is a case of being greater than the sum of its parts - it makes more sense and is more enjoyable listened to in its entirety, which was probably the intention, with each track mixing into the next. I read that they wanted to replicate one of their live shows in an album format and I think it works. I think TBD have been quite varied in their styles and approach in this current line-up, and delivered some great music. These last four albums have each been different and have all been great. There is a more stripped down approach here and you can hear the influence of darker techno and industrial (Sheffield anyone?) Not everyone's cup of tea and its different to classic TBD, but that's good! Personally, I think Plaid are long past their best and I found the recnt Scintilli LP disappointing. Each to their own.

Sadly yes. Turns out Hype Knot 7 is decent enough, but one track out of thirteen simply ain't good enough. But then he IS up against Ed and Andy who whip his ass at every opportunity still. I always hope Ken will come good again one day and dip into what he's up to now and again and its always the same story sadly, boredom.

Depends. Did you actually press 'Play'?

I didn't like it that much after the first time listen. Second time it was much much better. Third time I was blowing away. This is seriously good stuff. Same old Black Dog but with this new minimal techno twist. Like guys went to Germany and was inspired by modern German minimal techno music. Not every song like that. It is still some songs of BD circa 1994. I love this new direction. Along with the new Plaid album, this one is one of my favorite albums of 2011.

I have had a great time using this record in all kinds of sets, it has minimal elements which to me can make good things suck, but they manage to use these elements to make the record dancefloor accessable which is what I was hoping for when i ordered it. Further Vexations will probably hold up better over time, and still sneaks into my sets.
