For me this album was an introduction to a different kind of soul music. Soul music which seemed a bit rawer and un-polished than the Motown and Stax albums I had heard and not paid too much attention to. Tracks like 100% poison's 'You keep coming back', or Marion Love's 'Can't forget about you baby' just captured the emotion of a break up so much better than any other music I had heard. I read a review of a Northern Soul compilation once which said 'for people who know what love really is' and it is that hightened emotional quality of great soul music which is demonstrated on virtually every track of this compilation. I still, many albums and years later come back to this compilation again and again. If you're splitting up with someone buy this and suffocate yourself in self pity..
