One of the great Lieder recordings of all time. Even for the celebrated German baritone this LP from the absolute prime of his career with nigh perfect piano accompanying by his friend Jorge Demos and natural startlingly warm and clear sound quality from DG, must count as one of his very best. The selections from Myrthen contain many timeless favourites and is launched with a stunning soaring interpretation of Widmung that is the essence of young love unmatched on record. While the Geben gypsy songs are dashing, highly charged quick as a flash emotional reactions. Main Here is Schwarzkopf plumbs the depths of disconsolate if not despair. Was this a premonition of the personal bereavement and profound loss the 30 year old singer was to suffer within a few months?But here he is - at his absolute best, contented and beaming out of the album photograph. The ED1 vinyl is of course Hamburg manufactured and deep groove. But the CD remastering in the "Fischer Dieskau Edition" birthday series with grayish booklets is very well done and good well filled value containing the Kernel Lieder too.For collectors of the art song unmissable and essential.
