Delirium
Nasty little EP by up and coming german Markus Suckut. Whereas the first Figure SPC by him was well balanced between dubby moods and full-on darkness this one is heavily in favor of the gutwrenching punchers like "Shine". The first track "Hunt" is already a piece heavily rotated on the Berghain mainfloor and believe me it does the job incredibly well. With staccato synths charging forth and forth it gives you the impression that something grim and hungry is slowly approaching you in the darkness yet it never fully touches you (the hard hitting kick does though). The way the staccato is used is a bit similar to Lucy's "Beautiful People" yet it works completely different in the context of this 126bpm stomper.Section might be the happiest circus melody ever pressed on a Figure release, I can't help but smile everytime this joyous melody kicks in, so completely out of place it makes sense again. Like a rusty hurdy-gurdy it screeches and sounds midly off-key but it all falls in the right place with the splashing hi-hats and the earth-shattering bassdrum.Scent closes the record on a somewhat relaxed note (mind you, only compared to the other 2 tracks). Dubby chords and swingful percussions give room for much reverb and relaxed floorjumping. This one sounds the most like his Figure SPC J release (think of "You" only faster and punchier). Good tool.Overall one of the best releases on this sub-label so far. All 3 tracks deliver in their own way with "Hunt" and "Section" already being well tested sure-shots for every techno oriented floor (I don't think the average house crowd could swallow these). The wait has been worth it.
