This top-shelf record used to be common to see in the bins after it was repressed in 1996...I thought, in my stunted youth, this meant it wasn't good and I passed it up. Years went by and it turned out Shake was close with some of my friends. One of these buddies of mine played Day Of Reckoning on our radio show five or six years back and when I asked him what it was, he gave me this look of "are you f______kidding me?" . I felt pretty lame for showing my ignorance but also for not having bought a few copies when they were going for the usual 5.99! Day of Reckoning shows the unconventional musical brilliance of Anthony Shakir...I can't even describe it's so original and beautiful and ass-kicking, one of my favorite techno tracks by a mile. It is complex but coherent, metallic and driving but thoughtful and melodic, serious but quirky. A Desert Island techno record.

I totally agree with what you said about this record i.e. "it's so original and beautiful and ass-kicking, one of my favorite techno tracks by a mile. It is complex but coherent, metallic and driving but thoughtful and melodic, serious but quirky. " I'm lucky enough to have lived in Detroit through the late 2000's. I picked this up for $5.99 at either Recordtime, Buy-Rite or Damon's records I can't remember. I still have all my Detroit techno/house records. Like you, I passed on records that I wished that I would have bought like some older Direct Beat, Octave One and Planet E stuff, but you can't get everything. Having been able to buy so many good things back then, more than make up for it. Peace and good looking out on a techno classic!
