Wire
For RUDE SYSTEM, the second full-length outing by The Ballistic Brothers, things commence with the double bass and electronics of "Tuning Up," and it sounds as if they're just clearing their collective throat for the main course. And when the funky "Soul Catcher" rolls around, it hits you right where it counts, as does the meandering jazz line of "Marching On." But "Shiva's Waltz" takes a new turn, introducing a quick folk guitar strum to accompany the harpsichord and breaks and, eventually, the strings too, all in 3/4 time, while the deeper chords of "Future James (Jack)" lead right into a house stomp. The dub breaks of "Streets Are Real" and bass guitar-driven "Rule of the Bone" are slightly unfocused, but "Blacker," which samples Gil Scott-Heron's "Brother," smooths out the rough edges. But the star of the album is without doubt the two-part "A Love Supreme," based on Coltrane's unsurpassed classic. The first part soaks your ears in mellow, mid-tempo breaks as the instruments swirl around, "Silent Runnings" suggests that the album will end on an ambient, spacy note, but the rhythm quickly reminds us that there's still plenty of groove to go around. While not as on-point as their debut, the album is still quite strong.

Flash_back
'blacker' is such an amazing track, though the artistic magic is degraded somewhat when you hear the truly amazing 'headhunter's' by the master himself> mr herbie hancock- king of the keys
