Recorded November 1965 in New York City.
Note: The original 1966 release and subsequent releases (until 1972) featured Marion Brown's composition "Exhibition" as track 3, with Bennie Maupin on tenor saxophone and without Alan Shorter. On releases from 1975 onwards, Exhibition was replaced with Alan Shorter's composition Mephistopheles from the same recording session, which had Alan Shorter on trumpet and omitted Bennie Maupin. However, this change was not reflected on the LP cover and labels on most of these releases, including those on Base Record.
