The last years of his life had Levon Helm (1940-2012) serious health problems. A tumor in his throat seemed to usher in the end of his career, but the drummer (and mandolin player) of The Band backed down. In order to pay for his medical expenses, he organized regular concerts in a barn at his home. This Midnight Rambles had an invigorating effect on helmet, which despite its throat problems even began to sing. The Grammys awarded albums Dirt Farmer (2007) and Electric Dirt (2009) were the successful result of this renaissance. After helmet in 2012 succumbed to his illness, soon followed the plan to honor him with a Midnight Ramble. Incidentally, would also be collected money to pay off his concert barn. This dvd gives a nice overview of the benefit. A star cast consisting of among others John Hiatt, Mavis Staples and Roger Waters strikes itself with great feeling material by the roots. A fitting tribute full of highlights, though the true interpreter of these songs very missed. This dvd stresses that the American folk music has lost a great man.
