I've always been a sucker buying or being at least interested in bands because of their album covers. This band intrigued me back in 1996 because the cover was strange for a metal band of the mid 90's. Evidently gothic in look with it's ghostly Jane Austen looking cover, so what does this sound like I asked myself, expecting to be full of orchestral keyboards, violins etc.No.... It is abit of a wet fish. Gothic Doom metal that plods along at pretty much the same mid pace all the way through, the female vocals are good, but not breath taking. It boarders on being quite chirpy in some tracks and almost commercial pop sounding with it's uplifting singing and passages. That doesn't mean it's terrible though. They are decent musicians, and the guitarist is very good with the acoustic guitars . I like the intro too with it's bag pipes, sounds like a scene from Braveheart. But for most of it, it's fairly average, with no real twists or turns except for the odd piece of violin, and theres not even any keyboards which is unusual for a gothic metal band.I suppose what does make this stand out is the fact it's a doom metal band with a female only vocal performance which was quite unusual at the time. But I'm still drawn to it's charms, even if it's for it's collectors status. It has an air of obscure-ness about it that you get from the early post - 94 underground metal scene. It's a classic now and a collectors piece like most underground metal acts from the mid 90's released on small short lived labels. I've seen this CD fetch over £25.

Just because it's Doom metal, no cheesy goth bullshit here.
