Qulcelat
There is no track listing on this cassette, so I’ll just have to blunder through without. They thump into the arena with a piece which consists of drums, bass, acoustic guitar & vocals (sung in German). It’s well-played, meandering stuff, sort of Ethnic Folk music with Rock poise. The second track, with the French vocals, sounds to me not unlike acoustic METAL URBAIN which then turns into something like IAN DURY’s "What A Waste”. The third track is a smoother, less interesting thing which cuts out midway through. The second side open with something else owing a lot to Ethnic Folk music. The second track again reminds me of M.U., although it uses real drumming & acoustic guitars. The third is again acoustic meanderings which cut off before the end - irritating. While this is not my taste in music, I expect I will find time to play this again, as what they do, they do excellently - much more listenable & enjoyable than the GYPSY KINGS.Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
