This album contrasts almost everything NE has done before. Nigel Ayers constructed more than one hour of thick, funky beats mixed with lots of guitar/tabla samples and Eastern-tinged atmospheres. The album’s seamless mix of elements from various cultures is awe-inspiring. The only problem is that the tracks sound very similar, so the joke wears a little thin going into the 40th minute. Nevertheless, this is a funny listening adventure and probably the beginning of a new period for NE. Also recommended for fans of Peter Gabriel’s Real World label.
