Dibei
This release puts out the classic 'Hughes/Thrall' album, with a fresh 24-bit digital remaster. It's a pretty good remaster on the whole: not too loud, the excellent drum work is made clearer and the bass is upped a little. However, the original album wasn't really needing so much of a remastering, and where every track used to fade out on the original album, the outros are sometimes upped in volume and brought back. While it's interesting hearing these a little bit clearer, it's quite unnecessary and gives mixed results while not really adding much to the songs - these songs faded out for a reason! On the other hand, it is nice to have remastered versions of some of the demos recorded for the second effort from the group - which probably won't ever see the light of day as a proper release. That said, the tracks themselves aren't anything special, and certainly don't meet quite the same quality as the original album. That said, two of the songs written for this second album - 'You Were Always There' and 'Devil In You' - show up on Hughes' album 'From Now On'. The former fits right into the first album's sound, the latter is rather groovy and quite of-its-time.If you can't dig up the original CD, it's a fairly worthwhile purchase - although the original is the best way to discover this album.
