Being Germany's most successful producer, Frank Farian's career of course speaks for itself. However, this 2CD compilation, issued in 1994, doesn't do his achievements much justice, firstly because pop-disco tracks like Boney M. and Eruption from the 70s don't sit well alongside bombastic soft-rock tracks like Far Corporation and Meat Loaf from the mid-80s. The album would have been better if the tracks had been organized chronologically. Also, Farian chopped down his very biggest hits with Boney M. and Milli Vanilli to two medleys whereas no less than five tracks from his Meat Loaf album (which wasn't a hit) are included as well as several of Terence Trent D'Arby's early recordings, none of which was a hit either. A rather messy presentation of an extraordinary career, The Hit Collection deserves no more than 3 stars unfortunately.
