VITA NOVA - VITA NOVA (Penner CD 014) CD 47mOne of those totally unknown bands from the Krautrock era, and not surprisingly really, as their only album was released as a 500 pressing on an obscure Austrian label in 1971! Yet, most of you will know of the musicians that made up Vita Nova: Ed Ugly-Ugly (aka Eddy Marron) went on to the radical Dzyan, Sylvester Lysy (really Sylvester Levay) is now a top film music composer in Hollywood, and Chris Hoff (full name Christian von Hoffmann) is a top jazz session musician. Kind of the Arzachel of Krautrock, as a mythical and confused curiosity, it's also as radical and creative. Mostly instrumental, and drawing on classical, ethnic and many unlikely influences, from Egg to Ennio Morricone, you can hear also the roots of Dzyan's TIME MACHINE counterpointed with 60's psychedelia fronted by lyrics in Latin that remind of Il Balletto Di Bronzo's debut.
