Some may call it freestyle. The drum patterns are evidently influenced by it, minus any of that campy, corny vocal, commercial, cheesy sounding horried synth naffness proper new york freestyle generally contains. Some even call it breaks, it certainly isn't that. That's a term for lazy people that automatically call any beat which is NOT constructed as a 'four to the floor' a "break". Its aesthetic however is stone cold ELECTRO, that is for sure - Brooklyn Breakdown in particular. As far as I'm concerned this sits right up there with your Hashim, Information Society, Dynamix II, The Beat Club, Unknown DJ, Egyptian Lover, Model 500, Cybotron, Audio Tech, Newcleus etc etcWith it's heavy, rolling, gritty syncopated 808 drums, punctuated electronic bassline typical of other pure, all time electro classics. Sweeping evocative and slightly dark pads and keys. This release found its way being played slap bang in the middle of fields, warehouse raves and underground venues during the 1988/1989 UK summers of love! What an underrated Frankie Bones / Lenny Dee collaboration this is.

Great review... couldn't agree more. The Brooklyn Breakdown is an absolute grenade of a track.
