Fearlesshunter
I didn't give up on this one back in 'the day' and as far as I'm concerned, I've been vindicated each time I've listen to it since, regardless of the (somewhat sniffy) attitude from peers who didn't think it lived up to the 'true spirit'. Here are 5 reasons why they're wrong and I'm right, (from my point of view, naturally) 1. each of these tracks are deceptively subtle (as was much of Matthew Dear's output during the phase containing this LP). Spectral multi-effected elements smear in, out, and disappear only to be replaced by absolute melody, so long as you're aware enough to grasp them consciously. 2. The above are wrapped around often brutally funky and compelling rhythm and percussion, that's just on the right side of demented. 3. It's a musician's album too, even if musicality, just like its subtlety, is caked in a blokish type of bluster (another example: the song titles weren't everyone's cup of tea and were often enough to cause some people to dismiss the LP without a proper listen). 4. It's a generous LP, up to 10+ tracks (on the CD) and no fillers. 6. Yes, it's still good fun, and optimistic 11 years later.
