In my humble opinion the chill/down-tempo scene is getting saturated with a lot of substandard releases. Once in a while amid all this release frenzy comes a gem, a true piece of art. Unfortunately many such gems get sidelined or ignored among the mass. This self titled debut from Bombay Dub Orchestra is one such release. Bombay Dub Orchestra is a project by producer, keyboardist and composer Garry Hughes and classical composer Andrew Mackay. Coming from such varied backgrounds they bring diverse global influences as electronica, ambient, western classical, Indian classical into the project. The First CD is the original album, the second contains remixes of the originals. This double album is the best down-tempo I've heard in a while. No reused samples, no cheesy synth lines. Electronics meet acoustic in a perfect match. Flutes, vocals, strings, eastern and western classical orchestration are distilled into a neo classical electro-acoustic atmosphere. The remix cd is a big bonus, coming after the brilliant original. It's up to the mark with brilliantly crafted dubby remixes meeting classical. A must hear for every one into down-tempo, ambient and electronic. Up there in my list of essential hearing.
