Global Progression
George Golla released at least half a dozen albums in the 60s and 70s bearing his name on the front cover, but this is by far his best. Even then, the bulk of the record is pretty average, and if the saving grace wasn’t really, really good, this would be dollar bin fodder for the digging community. Fortunately ‘The Dancers’ is a fattening slice of jazz funk that is great all the way through. I know a local hip-hop group sampled something from this track, but I was more surprised when I listened to the recent vinyl release of DJ Shadow’s ‘Excessive Ephemera’ and heard a loop from it on one of his outtakes from the Endtroducing sessions. Forget about any other George Golla albums. This is the only one worth picking up (aussiefunk.blogspot.com).
