Very low-key release from the Brighton-based outfit with the terrible name (I actually recommended this band to quite a few A&R men in the late 90s but no one would touch a band with that name).The appalling moniker doesn't even begin to describe the music which is hushed pop, sometimes so quiet and discreet it's barely there. Laurence Collyer wrote some really good songs with novel and original lyrics. One of my favourites, which never seemed to get released, was called Screen Dream. It only seemed to emerge on a demo.Anyway - if you like downbeat, subtle and minimal pop music, expertly arranged and played, then you may enjoy Chimp.After a while they saw sense and changed their name to The Diamond Family Archive in the very early 2000s.
