Hidden Winter
The third studio album from the Devonshire trio delivers on it's title's premise as indeed we're presented with some of the sweetest, most luscious and soulful deep house out there. The overall vibe is quite mellow and laid back yet still groovy, being rooted in a solid 4/4 rhythm with a fair amount of Rhodes, guitar strings, alto sax and that rare light and passionate vocals of Marie Tweek, creating that unique "Rural Sound".My personal favorites are "Window Pain" with it's somewhat cheeky, driving rhythm, "Make Ammends", where lush pads mingle with mellow guitar strigns, "Mission 1" for it's dreamy yet vigorous and frisky sax and "Sweeter Sounds", a straight-up late night crowd pleaser, with the hook "I got a sweet love" that sounds a bit like the one from the 1988 classic "Big Fun".Highly adaptive and comfortable, these sweet sounds will work well in any environment, be it a sultry dance floor on a Friday nightor a slow paced, relaxed cup of coffee the next morning.
