Best deal of the 21st century on CD! Excellent assortment of classic ambient and what was then called trance(far cry from the garbage today). Eclectic in that most tracks actually sound different and attain uniqueness of and to the artists. Yes folks electronic musicians who dont all sound the same at the machines of loving grace. The opening track is what hooked this aficionado early Orbital was groove laden electronic funkiness thick with intricacy and melody but in all honesty all the tracks are great esp the Material remix by Orb!!

Just a short question: are this tracks mixed or single tracks?

Samowar
Individual songs. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Jediathain
The tracks are all single, unmixed. It's a great selection, well worth picking up.

What an album this is. If you want a taste of the chill-out rooms of the early 90s raves and the after-rave come down sessions in someone's front room on the sofas as the dawn fights its way through the tightly closed curtains, here it is. Enjoy.

this was great, wish I still had mine. crash course!

Flathan
i thought this was actually a pretty weak release compared to the following volume which sounded much more modern and cutting-edge. the mastering on these cd's is very poor and there is a definite lack of "oomph" in the mixes. indeed, some great artists and a few great tracks, but overall i was very disappointed after being exposed to volume 2 before this one. still keeping it in my collection though for prosterity's sake.

The entire series is beautiful, unfortunately the booklet was impossible to read without damaging and quickly fell apart.

All volumes of these series came with a 192-page booklet. Full of interviews, pictures, trivia, etc. about the featured artists and the musical styles they represent, written with a sense of humor and creativity. In those times (before the internet existed) that was an incredible and unique source of information, something that's never been repeated by any other compilation as far as I know. Together with all those classic tracks from legendary artists, these releases are truly essential.
