This is a great obscure compilation of five Columbia / EMI R&B acts, compiled from two songs per band dating 1967 or 1968. It is no obvious hit compilation, for instance 'Repent Walpurgis' is a Procul Harum (instrumental!) album track, Pink Floyd's 'Point Me At The Sky' did not chart at the time and 'Kites' being the obvious choice as the Simon Dupree hit single is not on this record. So it is a bit of an odd pick, but an absolutely great spin!No release info on the record itself. I believe this album was released in december '68 or early '69. The most recent track, 'Point Me At The Sky', was not recorded until November and (correct me if I'm wrong) only got out the week before Christmas '68. The creatively titled "Purple Simon Moves the Pink Harum" is a very enjoyable 'heavy R&B' sampler. It pointed the Purple and Floyd loving fifteen year old me towards Procul Harum and Gentle Giant (the next Shulman brothers band after Simon Dupree). It also lead me to other/older R&B stuff like the Small Faces and more Mod related music. Listening to the record twenty years later it still brings a very big smile to my face, like I'm sitting watching flowers in the rain...
