The US version is 33 not 45-- I received a copy for Christmas which will be returned. It is pressed off-center with very audible distortion. The vinyl surface it littered with excessive quantities of noise-- loud crackles, ticks, and pops throughout. Truly awful. The sound is brickwalled and far worse than the CD -- I own an original release of that. A lost opportunity. Maybe they will try again in a few years. It's such an excellent album with some of their strongest songwriting. It deserves better.

My copy of RTS is EU manufactured and 45rpm which surprised me as the US reissue seem to be reporting 33 on various vinyl forums. nothing in the deadwax. Certainly not as hot and bright as my 1996 original CD which i can't listen to as it's just sounds a bit muddled and lacking a bit of low end. On first listen this reissue doesn't seam massively different, some inner groove noise though not massively intrusive. As others have also indicated, I am just happy/relieved to finally have this on vinyl and having almost pulled the trigger on a £100+ OP for years. Both are far from flat, dirty marks and fingerprints on brand new vinyl is unacceptable, The hallmarks of having been pressed at GZ Media, as a lot of BTB / Universal RE are, it's mockery that these are £25 considering the lack of quality control. Gatefold is lovely though. All things considered this is OK.

As with below, my copy is just ok. I only listened to half so far (just the first LP), but it didn't seem to be pressed off center. Sound wise, it is certainly nothing to brag about. It sounds flat to me, very flat. I had to turn the bass up just to try and level some of the sound but it still wasn't great. I do get some groove distortion sounds at times too I believe. Happy to have this on vinyl finally, but disappointed in the sound quality. I hadn't picked up A&EA yet, and now I may not.

Looks like another pair of classic albums in desperate need of a vinyl reissue had their collective balls dropped. Slapdash, money-grubbing pressing principles will always be a disappointment for the consumer. You'd think these idiot record labels would understand that people are going to know when they're having the oakey-doke stuck to them. I will always research an album repressing in today's age before I buy it. There is just no trusting these repressings and the production haste with which they are made.

Black_Hawk_Down
My copy sounds ok, basically. Unfortunately both "Recovering" AND "August" are pressed off center and both are making those creepy wobbling sounds. Anyone made the same experience?

Downloaded
The copy that I received is not a 45 RPM copy. I believe August and Everything After is the only one being released as limited edition 45 RPM - but also as a standard 33 LP on March 24th.

Dolid
Yeah, I heard someone else mention their "August.." pressing was also 45rpm from Europe. Really Surprised they did separate masterings, usually same mastering but different pressing plant.

Vit
Just checked and mine is 45rpm . But it's a european version number 00602557097610

Stan
Neither of these reissues are 45rpm. The 45rpm version of August and Everything After is this listing https://www.discogs.com/Counting-Crows-August-And-Everything-After/release/3963109

Milleynti
I think mine is 45rpm ...let me see when I get home. I thought it sounded fantastic.

DABY
This is a low-quality pressing, because the master tapes were lost and they used digital files, essentially making this a CD on vinyl.Thankfully, I invested in an original pressing years ago that sounds warm and lively, due to it being created with the original analog tapes. Looks like in order to hear this album in its true, golden form, you'll need to plunk down the $150 asking price for an original pressing..

Deorro
Some real scientific backing you’ve got here. Had folks not known the master tapes were lost I’m sure they’d be singing its praises here. The 90s press was nothing to write home about. Nothing in the mid-to-late 90s was. It was rare and that’s it.

Arcanescar
My original pressing is most certainly pressed from the original master tapes, because you can hear the difference night and day between it and the 2017 reissue. Record labels weren't using hi-res digital files to press records back in the mid-90s because the slipshod process utilized today wasn't even an option with technology then. Records were still properly pressed with care and attention back then because vinyl wasn't the in-demand commodity it is today.I've listened to both pressings back to back; the OG pressing is significantly warmer sounding and more spacious from a dynamic standpoint. Whereas the 2017 repress physically sounds like its sourced from a digital file.

Vareyma
Even though the original tapes existed when the record was pressed doesn't necessarily mean that it was cut from it. The original pressing could have easily been mastered from a hi-rez digital file sourced from the tape like many of todays releases. This is more common than not. I would do the research before dropping that $150 for a possibly digitally sourced original IMO.

Paxondano
Look forward to hearing updates on the sound quality? According to this interview, the 2 inch tapes were lost and all that remains are the digital tapes that they transferred to do the mix.http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/474520/counting-crows-lament-lost-album-tapes-its-disgusting

Celore
I've listened to it twice so far, and I am not impressed. Audible groove distortion begins halfway through each side and progressively gets worse. I've listened to the CD many, many times and this is a big disappointment.

Water
Is this really 45 RPM or is that just a listing error? I hope it is 45rpm!

Goll
Can you confirm that your release is absolutely 45 rpm? I am quite skeptical that there would be two different masterings of the same reissue floating around. Perhaps you could post pictures or a video somewhere. I want to believe you, but I can't find anything else on the web about a 45rpm version of this record.

Androwyn
Sorry I have the european re-release which is 45rpm. I was commenting on the wrong re-issue.

Trex
I don't know how this is such a point of confusion, wow.

Bladecliff
It is really 45rpm and sounds fantastic :D same as August and Everything after re-release.

Ucantia
Sorry to bust your bubble, I'm spinning it right now, it is definitely 33-1/3

Efmprof
Can't believe they finally re-released this :D Mine should arrive in a few days and will review the pressing.
