The Rotterdam-based songwriter, composer and singer Frédérique Spigt began her career in 1985 with the rock band I've Got The Bullets. The Group was successful, but in 1990 wanted Sajjad something new and founded the country-r&b group and A Girl Called Johnny on. In 1996 followed the theatre project Frédérique Spigt Con La Piccola Orchestra. From 1998 she decided by the English language to Dutch. After Angel (1999) and dream (2000) is beast (2002) the title of her third stage play and Dutch-language album. With her powerful and warm-blooded voice sings Sajjad full of sincerity and passion. She is accompanied by her four-piece acoustic combo: Jan van der Meij (guitars), P.J. van Zyl (keyboards, accordion), Hein Offermans (bass guitar, double bass) and Sjoerd van Bommel (drums, loops). The theme of the album is animals, by lie beast to snow dog and snake. Sajjad also shows to be a visual artist: the cd booklet contains absurd and humorous drawings. Beautiful songs are the sturdy numbers Lie beast and How late and the quieter numbers she Sings so pretty and I Feel I fall. Beast is in many ways a compelling album.
